In its 47th report (1967–68), the Parliament’s Estimates Committee suggested that a Service Selection Commission be established to conduct tests for lower-level positions.
Later, on November 4, 1975, the Government of India established the Subordinate Service Commission under the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms.
On September 26, 1977, the Subordinate Services Commission was renamed the Staff Selection Commission.
Through the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, the Government of India altered the powers of the Staff Selection Commission on May 21, 1999. The revised structure and functions of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) entered into effect on June 1, 1999.
Every year, the SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination is held to recruit non-gazetted officials for a variety of government positions.
Headquarters
New Delhi is the headquarters of the Staff Selection Commission. Prayagraj, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Bangalore, and New Delhi are the company’s seven regional offices. It also has Raipur and Chandigarh Sub-Regional Offices.
SSC exams are held on a regular basis. SSC is now a DOPT subordinate body in charge of organizing competitive tests for various positions in SSC departments and organizations.
