The Bihar State Health Society (SHS) was formed to assist its functionaries in receiving, managing (including disbursement to implementing agencies such as the Directorate of Medical & Public Health District Societies, NGOs, and others), and accounting for funds received from India’s Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Its resources will oversee the NRHM’s non-governmental organisation (NGO) and public-private partnership (PPP) components in the state, including contract execution, fund disbursement, and performance monitoring.
The Bihar government has decided that SHS Bihar will serve as a resource centre for policy/situational analysis and policy formulation for the Department of Health and Family Welfare (including development of operational guidelines and the development of policy change proposals for consideration by the government ).
Strengthen the technical/management capacity of the Directorate of Medical & Health Services Patna as well as the District Societies through a variety of means, including the recruitment of individual / institutional experts from the open market and mobilisation of financial / non-financial resources for complementing/supplementing the NRHM activities in the State.
It will hold training sessions, meetings, conferences, policy review studies/surveys, workshops, and inter-state exchange visits, among other things, to gather information for strengthening NRHM implementation in BIHAR.
