Rajasthan, sometimes known as the ‘Land of Kings’ or ‘Land of Kingdom,’ is India’s largest state in terms of land area. The state is located in the northwest corner of the country and is a melting pot of cultures. In practically every city, there are ruins of the Indus Valley Civilization, as well as temples, forts, and fortresses. Rajasthan is divided into nine regions: Ajmer State, Hadoti, Dhundhar, Gorwar, Shekhawati, Mewar, Marwar, Vagad, and Mewat, each with its own historical and creative contributions.
These areas have a history that runs parallel to that of the state.
Keoladeo National Park, in Bharatpur, is a world heritage site notable for its bird life. Apart from that, the state features two national tiger reserves: Sawai Madhopur’s Ranthambore National Park and Alwar’s Sariska Tiger Reserve.
The state was established on March 30, 1949, when the British Crown integrated Rajputana into the Dominion of India. The state’s capital was declared to be Jaipur, the state’s largest city.
Rajasthan’s early history contains some of the country’s most famous Maharanas, Nawabs, and Rulers. Prithiviraj Chouhan, Samrat Hem Chandra Vikramaditya (also known as Hemu), Mughal Emperor Akbar, Maharana Udai Singh, Maharana Pratap, Raja Maan Singh, and others were among the prominent among them.
Rajasthan’s former autonomous kingdoms established a rich architectural and cultural history, which can be seen today in a plethora of forts and palaces, many of which are adorned with Muslim and Jain architectural features.
