The University Grants Commission (UGC) has entrusted the National Testing Agency (NTA) with conducting UGC-NET, a test that determines whether Indian nationals are eligible for positions such as “Assistant Professor” and “Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor” in Indian universities and colleges.

Until June 2018, CBSE conducted the NET in 84 topics in 91 cities across the country.
Following that, the National Testing Agency will administer the UGC-NET starting in December 2018. (NTA).

The candidate’s overall performance in UGC-NET Papers I and II determines whether or not they are eligible for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and/or Assistant Professorship.

Candidates who only meet the Assistant Professorship requirements will not be considered for a JRF.

Candidates who pass the eligibility test for Assistant Professorship are subject to the norms and regulations for Assistant Professor recruitment established by the university/college/state government, as applicable.

Every year, the UGC-NET is held twice.
The June 2022 UGC-NET has been postponed due to the postponement of the December 2021 UGC-NET due to COVID-19.
With the approval of UGC, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has merged the UGC-NET test cycles of December 2021 and June 2022 (merged cycles) so that they can be administered in CBT mode simultaneously.
